Korte Pumpkins 2009

At long last, the 6 little pumpkins that Nick and I carved this year are here for your viewing pleasure. We'll start with the favorite among the tweens and teens of the night, my Twilight pumpkin with Edward and Bella:This is Sam from some cartoon called Trick or Treat. I chose this pattern because I thought it was cute and the pumpkin I was carving it on was kind of short and squatty. Only later in the evening did I find out that in the cartoon, shortly after Sam takes a bite out of his lollipop he stabs someone with it. So much for cute:Hey, it's the penguins from Madagascar! I won Most Notorious Pumpkin this year by far. We heard someone exclaim "It's the penguins from Madagascar!" at least once every 5 minutes. It was so bad that even a group of 10 grown men each individually pointed out the penguins at various times while they were standing there, as if none of them had noticed the others pointing it out just a few minutes before. Nick wanted to do this Super Mario Bros one. I think it turned out well and you'll probably see it again next year because I have 4 other patterns that go along with it. I think he wants to do a theme. How could we skip this year without a couple of Michael Jackson pumpkins?? We couldn't. I've actually been wanting to carve this Thriller one for a couple of years now but we finally got around to it. Nick did the Thriller one and I did the one below with him singing. The main attraction, the pumpkin of all pumpkins this year was done by Karyn, Nick's sister. She enjoys doing the super hard patterns that take hours to carve, while I prefer to stick to moderate patterns so that I can do more. Last year she did the corn monster guy that took her 4 hours. This year, she carved this carousel: and it took her 5 hours to carve. Yes, the carousel goes all the way around. I've heard rumor that next year Bill plans on rigging up something so that she can carve this again and it will actually turn. That will be really cool.

I peeked last night, and they were all great! I'm still disappointed I didn't see a fetus pumpkin, but oh well. I'm sure the Twilight one was much more appealing to the masses. Great job!

Hey I stumbled upon your blog through a search about PRK. I was reading your past entries and just wanted to say thanks for writing about it. I haven't found many personal accounts. I was just wondering if you could tell me how you are feeling now at least/almost 2 years after. I am scheduled to have my prk in a couple weeks and would love any feedback you may have. You can reach me at tigrrrlillies at gmail. com THanks so much and those are awesome pumpkins.

As always awesome job. I know you said you married into the pumpkin carving but if I remember correctly you did a few on your own before you met Nick. So it was a GOOD match. You are so skillful at everything you put your hand to.

Waiting to hear about the arrival of your little pumpkin. You know tomorrow (Nov 5) is James' birthday.
