Sophia the Fiat

The time has come to move on from being a minivan mom.  I know, usually moms don't do that until the kids are gone to college, and here Kate is not even in kindergarten yet. But my minivan had started to act up, she was showing signs of her age and let's don't even get into how not fuel efficient she was. Honestly, I really enjoyed having a minivan and the extra room was, on occasion, awesome. But the amount of time we actually utilized all that room in the van was slim. It didn't make sense to keep pouring gas money and eventually repair money into this van that really wasn't worth much to begin with.

Remember when I went to the State Fair? I spotted a Fiat 500L that day in the new car showcase. I didn't even know Fiat was making a larger 4 door vehicle until then. It was kind of love at first sight, and when we sat inside it was really really love. There was a surprising amount of room in there...so we started THE conversation. Let me just say that car shopping with Nick is not fun - he's a bit of a tightwad and when it comes to spending large sums of money he is less than thrilled. This is a good thing, really, because someone has to be the voice of reason at times. But sometimes, when it's time to do something and your wife is having a small lust-fest with a new Fiat, well, there's not much else you can do.

On Thursday, we bought Sophia:
Kate really liked the car and we let her decide on the name. She argued with me that she was a boy at first because she was black and that's a "boy color", but then I suggested that perhaps she was a girl and maybe her name could be Sophia the Fiat (named after Sophia the First from Disney, of course) and that's when I had her convinced...Sophia it is.
