Day 3

Kathleen has been on the outside for 3 days now. It's still somewhat surreal to me. I am sure I can blame that partly on the fact that I'm still sitting in my hospital bed with my husband's laptop. We were supposed to be discharged today, which would have been nice. However last night Kate had a bit of a jaundice situation arise and her bilirubin levels were high. Under the bililights she went, which is where she's been laying since except when she comes out for feeding. I've missed having her in our room during the day, but I know she needs to be under those lights so we can get her home.
She's so cute. She's got the chubbiest little cheeks, and when she's totally relaxed and sitting in your lap she's just like a little blob. She prefers to be burped sitting up and this is usually the best position to put her in to settle down, which makes her just melt into your hands like a little Buddha. I know she'll eventually grow into those rolls so I'm just enjoying them while they are here.
Right now I'm just focusing on getting her home. It still doesn't seem like she's completely mine, since I am not caring for her 24/7 right now. The nurses come get her and bring her to me as she needs me, so all the time in between she's with them. Reality will definitely change when we get home and she's all ours to handle. Until then, I'm going to try to enjoy the extra help and not wish that it was different because I am sure in a few weeks I'll be wishing for a nurse to come get her and bring her back when she's ready for lunch.
