Lunar Eclipse

I stayed up until the wee hours of this morning to watch the lunar eclipse. I've seen plenty of eclipses before, but since they were making a big deal about this one because it was falling on Winter Solstice (which means that Earth's axial tilt is farthest away from the sun at this time) I decided to stay up and watch. The last time that happened was 372 years ago.

Let's be honest - I wanted to play with my camera. I went out for my first photos at 12:45ish to check things out.I went back out again at 1:20 to get a glimpse of the progress. The total eclipse was supposed to begin around 1:40.I came back inside, grabbed a sweatshirt because there was just enough of a chill to make me cold (I was in my pjs, ok?) and stayed outside until 2:00 watching the moon turn orange and then sort of red.I am sure if I had stayed out longer, another hour or so, I could have seen the moon get even darker red than it was at 2. I was still tired from all the baking earlier so I went to bed.

Brandi, those pictures are AMAZING!!! My camera was acting crazy, so I didn't get any good shots, but the eclipse was beautiful. Did you use your zoom lens?
