Music and more music

Sunday night Nick surprised me with tickets to go see Chicago and The Doobie Brothers. We met a few friends there and plopped down on the lawn at Superpages.com Center for a few hours of awesome music and weird-dancing old people. Being that both bands for their musical starts back in the 70's (ish), the age range of spectators was quite vast. The older crowd, some who pulled out their old tye-dyed t-shirts and wore them with pride, were definitely fun to watch. A lady who had to at least be in her late 50's if not early 60's was standing in the midst of the lawn crowd dancing her heart out, and every time I looked back over at her she had been joined by 2 or 3 more people until their small group had grown to 20 or 30 folks, all ages, all jamming away to the music of The Doobie Brothers. I didn't know every song they played, but I knew all the biggies and enjoyed it just fine. Chicago was great as well, and at the finale both bands came out together and performed a 6 song finale. It was pretty much cool.

Last night I accompanied my friend Heather and her brother & sister-in-law to Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie to see Death Cab for Cutie along with Rogue Wave. What an awesome show! I loved it. Bobby works for AEG Live, so we got free seats, free VIP parking, and access to the club area which was great for them but since Heather and I didn't drink anything it meant that we walked into the club long enough to realize that despite the cool atmosphere and decor it smelled like an ashtray so we stayed out in the hall before going down to find our seats for the show. Our seats were AWESOME! We were on the front row of the section just off the pit, which is the front area closest to the stage and standing-room-only...and I think that would suck, BTW. Anyway, we were literally about 75 feet or so (I'm terrible with estimating this sort of thing) from the stage. Basically if I had a baseball, I could have thrown it on stage. I've never sat that close at a concert before and let me tell you, it's not too shabby.

The next concert I plan to attend is Foreigner and Bryan Adams in July. When we were at the show on Sunday night, they were selling lawn admission to that show for $5!!!! (How sad is it when the admission is $5 and parking is $15?? LOL)

Parking $15 and concert $5. How funny. Like us with free tickets to a hockey game but the parking was $15. No longer free. I love the doobie brothers. I would have been one of the one's out there dancing!
