Fall is here?

*sigh* The beginning of this week marked the beginning of fall. It doesn't seem very fall-like though, with the 90 degree temperatures and the bright, sunny days. I want fall to be cool, crisp, shadowy....something that makes me want to pull all the sweaters out of my drawers and wear them. I've resigned myself not to wear flip-flops outside of my house anymore. There is something completely wrong with sporting beach wear in late September.

My first week in my new office has been moving along smoothly. The boys I'm sharing my workspace with have been fairly easy to get along with thus far. I have been somewhat apprehensive about the language and over all atmosphere of the office. I am the only female, and there is only one man in the room with us that has any set of morals or religious thoughts about him. The others are not complete heathens, I suppose, but they are typical good ole boys...shop talk, smoking, inappropriate jokes...you know the type. They deal with truck drivers all day long and guys who actually work out in the shop. It made me a little bit nervous to be working in close quarters with them, but thankfully the gentleman who shares my beliefs and morals is the head honcho out here, so he is able to keep the others in line with just his mere presence. As for the time that he's out of pocket, well I'll just have to stand up for myself and complain to the right people if need be. At least I'm not the type to back down from what I stand for.

I'm still in the transition stage right now. Really I haven't had all that much actual work to do yet. The guys are still curious I think as to what they're supposed to have me do, and I still need to learn their jobs well enough that I can help them and take over parts of it. I figure this will last a couple of weeks or so. That's ok; it makes life a little less stressful.

Halloween is a little over a month away, and I'm extremely excited. I need to start figuring out what I'm going to be carving this year. I did Harry Potter in 2005, Pirates of the Caribbean in 2006 and in 2007 I did a group of Star Wars along with some Peanuts characters. So what should I do this year? I like the idea of a group of pumpkins, a theme...something that ties them all together. It makes people feel like I've accomplished more than if the group of pumpkins is kind of disjointed. My current obsession is with the Twilight series, but I don't know that enough people would recognize the characters for what they were if I tried to do a set inspired by the books. Maybe...I should try to figure that one out. There are lots of possibilities there. Of course that probably means making most of my own patterns again, but that shouldn't be too difficult. I am liking that idea the more I type. Hmmmmm......

If it makes you feel any better, even up north here it's too hot & sunny to feel like Fall. I have my air conditioning on right now... so go ahead & wear those flip-flops! Might as well be comfortable - maybe this is what the future of Fall (with global warming) will look like.
