Halloween night
In all, we displayed 52 carved pumpkins in the yard this year. Not bad, really. Every year the number goes up. Just wait a few years until Kate is old enough, and we'll hit 60 or 70.Someone asked me this year what was up with all the pumpkins? The big pay off is Halloween night. We obviously don't just sit in the house and wait on trick or treaters, because if we tried that someone would run off with our pumpkins. So we all sit outside, someone mans the candy and the rest of us mingle with the people who come by. It never fails; every year someone goes home and tells or calls someone to tell them that they must come by our house. We answer questions and listen to the kids try to identify every character they see. Lots of people take photos. some one even came back this year to tell us she had called the TV station to try to get them out.We do it because we love it, but we also do it for the people. We have bona fide fans - some people make a point to come back every year to see our house. One lady this year said she had been looking forward to it all day. That's why we do what we do.

*I'm* in CALIFORNIA! and I look forward to it every year! I absolutely love your family's spirit and creative pumpkins. It takes a lot of dedication to carve an intricate design on one pumpkin, but to do as many as you guys do is just amazing!
