Kate had just as much fun trick or treating as she did at Trunk or Treat the night before. She quickly adjusted to knocking on doors instead of walking up to cars, but she had a hard time with the concept that the houses with no lights didn't have candy. She wanted to go to every door.
Which brings me to a side rant - how much is candy, really? Buy some cheap-o Tootsie Rolls is nothing else and give out one per child. Come on. It's for the kids.
Anyway...she made quite a haul the second night too, so we have lots of candy now. Of course Mommy will have to pull aside all of the stuff that she can't really eat, and I'm sure some of it will disappear, you know, for other reasons. But she was still very excited. On occasion she would run ahead to get to the next house.
At one stop, Kate walked up the driveway to the couple who was sitting out on the porch to hand out candy (I even think the husband had his laptop out there - nice) and then she came back down the driveway. When we walked a few steps she spotted the sidewalk that led up to the same porch, but she headed up there anyway. We tried to stop her, but the couple on the porch told her to come on back! and they gave her more candy. Probably had a lot to do with the fact that she was so stinkin' cute. After every house, she'd look in her bag to see how much candy she had. A couple of times she exclaimed "Wow!" and usually followed that with "More!"
Naturally she couldn't be bothered to carry Toto again, so Yia yia had to carry him all night. In between houses, she also had to carry the candy bag. Kate kept trying to run off to the door without her bag. In her defense, it got heavy after a while! This was probably my best Halloween ever, because there's nothing more precious than experiencing it all through my daughter's eyes. I can't wait for Christmas!
